JANUARY 5: A homemade cake called “Keto Mug Cake” made with powdered keto-sugar (shown in this undated photo) has been named the winner of the 2013 Food & Wine New Orleans Taste Competition.
The winning cake is made with a combination of cocoa butter and sugar, and has been described as “the best tasting cake on the planet.”
According to Food & Wines, the winning cake was named the “Best New Orleans Food” and “Best Cake in the World” for “the sheer perfection of the frosting.”
“Keto Cake” is also said to have the highest nutritional value of any cake.
The winner of this year’s competition was “Keto Mug Cake,” a homemade cake with a mixture of cocoa and powdered ketone esters (shown above).
The cake has been widely praised as a “taste-good dessert” and has even been made into a cereal, a popular snack for many Americans, according to Food Network.
Food & Wine says the winning “KETO Mug Cake”—which was named “Best of New Orleans” by readers—is now available in stores.
The cake is not a traditional Keto Mug.
Instead, it uses “mocha,” which is a “soft and fluffy chocolatey mixture” and contains powdered ketones.
The recipe calls for powdered ketol, but the food website notes that the chocolatey chocolate is “a rich source of antioxidants and fiber.”
“It also has the added benefit of keeping you full longer and providing you with extra energy to stay active during the busy holidays,” Food & Water said in a description of the recipe.
The company said it was inspired by the cereal Krispy Kreme, which uses powdered ketonols.
“Ketogenic foods and their health benefits are known to include the use of ketones to promote fat burning and the ability to burn fat for energy.
It is believed that the ketogenic diet has been proven to be beneficial in weight loss, insulin sensitivity, and cardiovascular health,” the company added.
